Swami Ramanand Teerth Marathwada University, Nanded has scheduled PhD Entrance Exam i.e. PET on Sunday, 5th August 2012. As per 2009 UGC regulations, its mandatory to conduct PhD exam. Any PG Student with 50% marks (open candidate) and 45% marks in case SC & ST Candidates will be eligible to appear for PET.
All the PG students appearing for the final year examination can also appear for the PET however their admission shall be confirmed subject to the condition of fulfilling the required qualification.

Pattern of the PET 2012:
PET-2012 will be of 100 marks comprising three different sections. First section is general for all candidates, while rest of the two sections will be based on the subject of their post graduation. Independent passing for each section is compulsory.
Section – A:
Research and Language Aptitude / General Knowledge / Numerical Ability / Reasoning (Common paper for all candidates) – Forty Multiple Choice Questions; There will be Forty Multiple Choice Questions of Total Marks: 40 and Time: 45 minutes (This paper is common for all the candidates)
Section – B:
Multiple Choice Questions on the ‘Concerned Subject’.
There will be Thirty Multiple Choice Questions with Total Marks: 30;
Time: 30 minutes
Section – C:
Descriptive type questions based on the ‘Concerned Subject’
There will be five questions out of which candidates are required to attempt any two questions. Each question is of 15 marks.
Total Marks: 30; Time: 60 minutes
There will be negative marking for Section ‘A’ & ‘B’.

Exemption for Ph.D. Entrance Test:
If you are fulfilling any condition given here, you will be exempted from PET 2012
1. Candidates who have qualified GATE / MGATE / NET / SET (Maharashtra State) / JRF examinations conducted by the apex bodies such as CSIR / UGC / ICAR / ICMR / DBT, etc.
2. SRTM University awarded M.Phil. Candidates.
3. University Approved Teachers with 10 years of teaching experience and having two research publications published in the peer reviewed research journals with ISBN number.
4. Senior citizens at the discretion of Vice-Chancellor.
Passing Marks for selection
1. Eligibility for qualifying the PET-2012 is 45% of marks for SC & ST candidates and 50% for all other Categories.
If no candidate, in a particular subject, scores required number of marks, seats for that particular subject shall lie vacant and will not be filled in any case.
2. Schedule of the Research Allocation Committee meeting will be displayed on the University website after the declaration of result of PET-2012. PET qualified as well as PET-Exempted candidates need to appear before the ‘Research Allocation Committee’ at the appropriate place and time shown in the schedule for the interview.
The ‘Research Allocation Committee’ shall allocate Supervisor to the eligible
candidates. Candidates will not have any say in selecting the Supervisor/Guide.
3. Only the pre-determined number of seats will be filled in during the RAC meeting. No candidate will be accommodated beyond the available vacancies.
The RAC committee shall admit the candidates as per the Maharashtra Government Reservation Rules. Foreign students shall be treated at par with the open category for admission.
Research topic Approval
After finalization of the ‘Supervisor’ & ‘Research Topic’, synopsis shall be prepared by the candidate in consultation with the supervisor, which shall then be submitted to RRC for its final approval within a month.
Registration for PhD programme
Date of Registration:
The registration of the candidate shall be confirmed only after RRC approves the topic.
The date of registration, if the topic is approved by RRC, shall be the date on which the candidate is selected by the ‘Research Allocation Committee’.
Registration for Foreign Students:
For foreign students, provisional registration to Ph.D. programme will be given
throughout the year.
Guide to the Foreign Students shall be assigned by the ‘International Student Centre’ in consultation with Vice-Chancellor. The final approval, however, shall be given by RR Committee. Research visa shall be mandatory for foreign students.
The Course work of 20 credits (as pre Ph.D. preparation), will be compulsory for all the PET passed candidates and the PET exempted candidates including foreign students.

The candidates who are allocated Supervisors will have to clear the ‘Course Work’ within two years (maximum of four attempts) from the date of their registration, failing which their registration will automatically stand cancelled.
Exemption: Eligible candidates will get exemption from the Course work as per the Ph.D. Ordinance of this University .
Disclaimer by University:
No candidate who has passed the PET can claim automatic registration for Ph.D. course irrespective of the merit and availability of the vacancies in the concerned subject.
Research Allocation Committee will decide the Supervisor for Ph.D. programme.
Student should carry Hall Ticket to the examination center.
Should not submit along with application form to the University in any case .
